The project forms part of Wyndham’s long-term sports infrastructure strategy, with further sporting facilities and a pavilion planned in the next stage.
Future sporting precinct planned for growing suburb
Stage one of Fortitude Drive Reserve in Truganina is now complete, delivering a new $10.1 million active open space for the growing Wyndham community.
The newly opened facility includes an athletics track with supporting infrastructure, play space, grassed multi-use kickabout area, circuit track, path network, landscaping, lighting and a new car park. The reserve also features shelter areas, BBQ and picnic facilities designed for community use.
Fortitude Drive Reserve has been identified as a key project in Wyndham’s long-term sports planning. The reserve forms part of the City of Wyndham’s Sports Strategy and 2040 Vision, which outlines future sporting infrastructure required to support the municipality’s rapidly growing population.
The Council’s master plan for the site was finalised in July 2022 following community consultation and sets out a long-term plan for the use, management and development of the Truganina reserve.

The facility is expected to serve both local residents and the wider Wyndham community.
Stage one establishes the foundation for what will ultimately become one of Wyndham’s major sporting precincts. When fully developed, the reserve is planned to include a full synthetic athletics track, circuit track and shared-use pavilion, as well as a hockey playing field.
In addition to organised sport, the reserve has been designed to support everyday recreation. Plans for the broader precinct include walking trails, playground space, shaded BBQ and picnic areas, jogging tracks and informal kickabout zones.
The next stage of the project will see the construction of a sports pavilion featuring change rooms, a social room, kiosk, storage areas and public toilets. Construction on the pavilion is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
The Fortitude Drive Reserve project has received $908,000 in funding from the Victorian Government.
Once complete, the precinct is expected to provide a major sporting and recreation destination for residents across Truganina and the wider Wyndham area.
