Shockingly, neither of the unlicensed riders, aged 11 and 15 years old, wore any protective gear, including helmets.

The Westgate Highway Patrol motorbike unit successfully apprehended two youths on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at approximately 1:50 PM. The suspects were riding highly dangerous, unregistered, and un-roadworthy motorbikes in the Werribee area, as reported by concerned members of the public.

During the incident, one of the youths was observed riding on the footpath, while the other was seen riding against traffic on the wrong side of Shaws Road. Shockingly, neither of the unlicensed riders, aged 11 and 15 years old, wore any protective gear, including helmets.

The petrol engine-powered pushbike used by the 15-year-old suspect has been impounded, and the rider is expected to face charges, with a summons to appear at the Werribee Children’s Court at a later date. As for the 11-year-old youth, a warning was issued, and in coordination with the parents, the minibike was forfeited and will be destroyed.

Police want to emphasize the severity of these actions. Riding such motorbikes is not only highly dangerous but also illegal. It is important to note that these types of motorbikes cannot be registered for road use, making it unlawful to operate them on roads or any public areas.

Police urge anyone who owns or rides these motorbikes to familiarize themselves with the laws regarding their usage and the associated restrictions.
