Teen Charged with Murder Following Fatal Stabbing at Woodgrove Shopping Centre, Investigation Continues
A 16-year-old boy has been tragically stabbed to death during an argument outside Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton West. The altercation, which occurred at approximately 11:50am on Tuesday, 24 September, escalated after two teenage boys became involved in a verbal dispute.
It is alleged that a 15-year-old boy produced a knife and fatally stabbed 16-year-old Oscar Hamilton “several times” near La Porchetta, in front of shocked onlookers at the outdoor food court area. Despite efforts to save him, including CPR from a bystander, Oscar Hamilton, identified as being from Harkness, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services were called to the area just before noon, and investigators quickly arrested a 15-year-old boy from Melton West, who was later charged with one count of murder. He will appear in a children’s court at a later date.
Homicide Squad detectives have confirmed that the two boys knew each other and believe the altercation led to the fatal incident. The suspect fled the scene towards High Street but was apprehended soon after. Police have stated that no links to youth gangs have been identified in this case.
The knife used in the attack has not yet been recovered, and police continue to study security footage from the shopping centre to better understand the circumstances. The victim’s mother is assisting detectives in the investigation, and police have reassured the public with an increased presence at the centre to ensure community safety.
This incident is part of a troubling series of violent episodes at the shopping centre, with police and investigators continuing to review all available evidence.
