Wyndham has opened a $3.7M youth-focused upgrade at Lawrie Emmins Reserve. The Laverton North site now features courts, fitness gear and a skate park.Officials say the project boosts youth activity across multiple suburbs.

The Lawrie Emmins Reserve in Laverton North has undergone an extensive $3.7 million upgrade, transforming an unused part of the reserve into a thriving sporting and recreational hub. Wyndham Mayor Cr Mia Shaw, CEO Stephen Wall, and Councillors were joined by Laverton MP Sarah Connolly and Minister Harriet Shing for the official opening of the new Gateway and Youth Precinct.

The upgrade includes a new skate park, basketball and netball courts, a climbing wall, and outdoor fitness equipment. It aims to provide a range of outdoor activities for the local youth, encouraging them to spend more time outdoors and engage in physical activities.

The newly renovated reserve also offers two shaded shelters with picnic facilities, a grassed gathering area featuring a volleyball court, newly landscaped surroundings, a toilet block, car parking, and other amenities.

Cr Shaw expressed her excitement about the new additions, stating, “These fantastic additions to Lawrie Emmins Reserve have created a new valuable open space for our community and is a testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality recreational facilities for our residents.” She added the upgrade would serve as a great space for young people in Laverton North, Williams Landing, and Truganina to engage in sport and have fun.

The project is part of the broader Lawrie Emmins Reserve Master Plan adopted by the Council in 2019, which also delivered a redeveloped motocross track.

Bemin Ward Councillor, Preet Singh, echoed Cr Shaw’s sentiments, stating, “This new reserve boasts fantastic new facilities our community will love and enjoy, leading to healthier and happier lives.” He encouraged families to visit and enjoy the new facility.

Wyndham City acknowledged the Victorian Government for their $1.5 million contribution to the project.
