Wyndham City Awards Construction Contract for Major Intersection Reconstruction Project
In the coming weeks, construction will begin on a significant upgrade of the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection in Tarneit. Wyndham City awarded the construction contract during a Council meeting held last night, securing a $5.7 million investment in the project.
The aim of the Wyndham City project is to completely reconstruct the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection, introducing traffic lights and sealed shoulders. These improvements are intended to enhance road safety for drivers, provide a smoother road surface, and ensure a more pleasant travel experience. Additionally, the reconstruction work will extend to Davis Road south of the intersection up to Twyford Way, as well as Davis Road north of the intersection up to Tarnala Road.
Several other enhancements are planned as part of the project, including the installation of public lighting, the construction of a footpath and bicycle lane, and the implementation of drainage works.
To expedite the delivery of the project and reduce costs, the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection will be closed to traffic throughout the duration of the construction works.
Mayor Susan McIntyre of Wyndham City expressed confidence that this upgrade would significantly improve safety at the intersection and address the growing traffic demands in Tarneit. She emphasized that reducing traffic congestion and enhancing road safety were crucial priorities for the community. Mayor McIntyre further highlighted that these efforts were in line with Wyndham City’s Road Safety Strategy for the years 2022 to 2032, demonstrating the commitment to developing necessary infrastructure for the expanding community.
This project follows a recent upgrade of the Boundary and Davis Road intersection in Mount Cottrell, costing $1 million. The Mount Cottrell upgrade involved widening and resurfacing the pavement, improving line markings and signage, as well as implementing road drainage measures.
The completion of the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection upgrade is anticipated by late 2023.
