Pacific Werribee in Hoppers Crossing is undertaking a program of permanent rectifying works in the area of the centre between Target and Myer, including the adjacent multi-deck car park.
Works commenced on 10 January 2023 and will continue in stages in the area of the centre between Target and Myer, as well as the adjacent car park.
The Target store at the complex has announced that it will be closed for around 8 months due to the works with the closest available stores being in Point Cook or Brimbank.
Background
The Centre has stated that the need for these works was identified as part of regular investigations undertaken throughout the Centre.
The types of works and measures that have taken place so far are consistent with structural integrity issues although Pacific Werribee have never clearly stated what the ‘issues’ are.
They have said that as soon as the issues were identified, they took immediate action to address them. Alongside the precautionary installation of temporary measures such as exclusion zones, props and cantilever beams, they said they have also worked with third-party specialist consultants and engineers to determine a program of works that will permanently reinforce these sections of the structure.
The majority of the works are expected to be completed by the end of 2024. All activity between now and then has been staged and localised to minimise impacts to retailers, customers and the surrounding community – at any time, the majority of the centre is unaffected, and it is business as usual.
The first stage of works will take place over the next couple of months in the LG, G, and 1st level car park area surrounding the central Heaths Road entrance, as well as in the area surrounding the ex-Valley Girl tenancy.
Impacts
You may notice some temporary changes to parking and centre and car park access points, the temporary closure or relocation of some stores, or higher than usual noise and some vibrations over the course of the project.
The Centre promises that the works will be performed in a way that seeks to minimise the impact on the community and have a number of measures in place to do so.
These include:
Making best endeavours to schedule noisy or disruptive works outside of these peak hours.
Implementing traffic management plans
Conducting works behind hoardings to help reduce noise and dust
Engaging additional cleaning services
