$800K Revamp for Werribee Icon

Levittown Rise in Werribee

Historic chimney to light up

Wyndham City Council is set to breathe new life into the historic 1960s red-brick incinerator at Levittown Rise Park in Werribee, allocating more than $800,000 in its Draft Budget for 2025–26 to continue transforming the site into a vibrant and accessible community space.

Originally constructed in 1966 by the former Shire of Werribee for waste disposal, the incinerator will be retained and refurbished, with its iconic chimney and chambers preserved as part of the area’s evolving identity. A new viewing platform will be built to represent the former ‘hopper’ structure, offering panoramic views toward the You Yangs. The chimney will also be fitted with feature lighting to highlight the site’s unique heritage character.

In addition to the incinerator works, the surrounding landscape will be upgraded to include pedestrian and shared-use paths, new seating areas with paving and lawn, and extensive landscaping with trees and garden beds.

The broader redevelopment of Levittown Rise Park is being carried out in multiple stages:

  • Stage 2 – Dog Off-Leash Park: Already completed and open to the public, this area features two fenced zones, a large lawn, dog agility equipment, seating, drinking fountains, and planting beds.

  • Stage 3 – North-West Open Space: Scheduled for mid to late 2025, this phase will introduce paths for pedestrians and cyclists, new seating, open lawn areas, and further tree planting.

  • Stage 4A – Southern Open Space: Planned for late 2026, this section will also include paths, seating, and landscaping. Some of these works will be delivered by the Harpley Estate developer as part of the interface with a future rail reserve.

  • Stage 4B – Incinerator Precinct: Also due to begin in late 2026, this stage will feature the full restoration of the incinerator structure and chimney, a modern interpretation of the hopper as an elevated viewing platform, and a more formal landscaped area with paths and seating.

Lighting at the incinerator will be carefully designed and timed to minimise environmental impacts and avoid disruption to nearby homes.

This long-term project aims to celebrate and preserve a unique piece of local history while providing a welcoming space for recreation, relaxation, and connection for the entire Wyndham community.
