Shots Allegedly Fired At Hoppers Crossing Workshop
Police were called to a business on Hammer Court, Hoppers Crossing, about 12pm on Tuesday 4 August following reports of a man with a firearm.
It is understood the 81-year-old Wyndham Vale man allegedly attempted to fire several shots at a 23-year-old man, however the firearm failed to discharge. Thankfully, no one was physically injured during the incident.
CCTV Captures Calm Getaway
CCTV obtained from the scene appears to show the accused making no attempt to flee.
Instead, he is seen slowly walking back to his Ford Falcon before calmly driving away from the workshop in what appears to be an unhurried departure.
Police Air Wing Joins Manhunt
The incident prompted a significant police response, with officers flooding the area and the Police Air Wing deployed overhead to assist in locating the vehicle.
The Ford Falcon was later spotted on nearby Industrial Avenue, where police continued their response.
Man Surrenders As Investigation Continues
A short time later, the 81-year-old man surrendered to police without incident and was taken into custody.
He is expected to be interviewed by police as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted shooting.
It comes just days after a machete-wielding gang stormed a nearby Hoppers Crossing home, the latest in a run of violent incidents to hit the suburb.
