In short:
Wyndham fuel prices differ by up to 40 cents a litre, highlighting the need for Victoria’s new real-time fuel reporting system. The Service Victoria “fuel finder” will soon help drivers locate the cheapest petrol in their area.
New App Tracks Petrol Costs
Fuel prices across Wyndham suburbs have been varying by as much as 40 cents per litre, but a new real-time reporting system is already helping to keep prices closer together.
The Fuel Finder feature is now fully operational on the Service Victoria app, allowing motorists to view live fuel prices across Victoria before filling up. Introduced under new state regulations, the system requires all fuel retailers to report their current prices whenever they change, improving transparency and giving drivers a fairer deal at the pump.
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Melbourne motorists could have saved up to $333 a year by refuelling at the lowest points in fuel price cycles and shopping around for cheaper service stations.

Consumer Affairs Victoria has been monitoring service stations to ensure compliance, with around 1,300 retailers now registered and reporting prices in real time. Penalties apply for those who fail to meet their obligations.
Wyndham motorists say the app is already having an impact, with less extreme price differences between suburbs. While some recent gaps have still reached up to 40 cents per litre — from about $1.69 in Werribee to over $2.09 in Point Cook — the margin appears to be narrowing as more retailers use the system.
The live data system is designed to make petrol pricing more transparent and competitive, helping drivers find the best deals and reducing sudden spikes at the bowser.
