Bail breach in violent group assault
A Werribee man accused of taking part in a violent group assault at Kings Domain was already on bail at the time — and is now facing serious charges alongside members of a group linked to neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell.
Police allege a number of men assaulted people in the Melbourne park around 5pm on 31 August.
The 34-year-old Werribee man has been charged with violent disorder, affray, assault by kicking, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
He is one of ten men now charged in relation to the violent incident, which is alleged to have involved members of the far-right National Socialist Network, led by Thomas Sewell.
Detectives from the Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit made several new arrests this week.
On 12 September, a 20-year-old Yea man was arrested on William Street and charged with violent disorder, affray, and discharge of a missile.
The day before, detectives charged a 22-year-old man with the same offences, and an 18-year-old man with violent disorder, affray, and assault with a weapon.
All three were bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 16 September.
Seven others were previously charged:
A 25-year-old man was charged with violent disorder, affray, unlawful assault and discharge missile.
A 29-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with violent disorder, affray, unlawful assault and discharge missile.
A 31-year-old Mitcham man was charged with violent disorder, affray and assault with a weapon.
Three other men, aged 32, 20 and 23, were arrested and charged on 2 September.
Police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au or call 1800 333 000.
