This collaboration aims to utilize the research capabilities of RMIT and the community networks of Wyndham City to stimulate innovation and enhance skills within the local business community. The program will incorporate Business AI Workshops and Business AI Solutions Sprints at the RMIT Business and Technology Studio, with an initial focus on AI, and plans to expand to all technology.
The partnership’s long-term goal is to establish a Wyndham & RMIT AI Hub. This hub will serve as a dedicated space for training in emerging technology, ongoing research, and innovation to address shared business challenges. The aim is to use technology-led solutions to facilitate new learning and growth opportunities in the region.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, expressed her excitement about the initiative. “This fantastic new groundbreaking initiative, a first of its kind, will benefit the business community in Wyndham. Through the partnership, Wyndham City Council and RMIT University will deliver a suite of tailored AI specific training programs,” she said.
RMIT Deputy Vice-Chancellor Business and Law Professor Colin Picker also shared his enthusiasm about the partnership. “At RMIT, we are undertaking a focused effort to advance our approaches and strategies related to technology as applied to business and law,” he said. “It’s wonderful to be able to work with Wyndham City Council, utilising our respective strengths to help prepare local businesses to respond to the challenges and opportunities of traditional, new and emerging technologies, such as those presented by the rise of Artificial Intelligence.”
In the initial phase of the partnership, RMIT will operate within Council’s SPARK Business & Innovation Hub in the dedicated ‘Business & Technology Studio.’ Here, RMIT will host interactive activities to engage the local business community and explore how artificial intelligence can be applied to solve business challenges.
The partnership aligns with Council’s Economic Development Strategy and will provide local businesses with access to contemporary research, knowledge, and skills in Wyndham.
