Werribee police have impounded a motorbike after it was detected allegedly speeding in Werribee last night.
An eagle-eyed officer spotted the rider allegedly run a red light at the intersection of Princes Highway and Hoppers Lane about 9.15pm.
Police attempted to intercept the vehicle in nearby Synnot Street, however the rider failed to stop and drove off at speed.
The airwing was in the area and monitored the rider from the air.
They were able to direct police on the ground after they observed the 35-year-old Horsham man dump the bike and flee on foot.
The man jumped a fence of a number of properties and entered a property in an attempt to hide from police.
Two men, who were home at the time, grabbed the man and held him until police arrived. One of the men was an off duty police officer according to Wyndham Eyewatch.
The man was found in possession of a small quantity of drugs and he has been charged with possess drug of dependence (cannabis), evade police, unlicensed driving, drive unregistered motor vehicle, speed manner dangerous and other traffic offences.
He was bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 19 August.
His bike was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1006.10.
