PM Visits Werribee Quietly

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a quiet visit to Werribee on 26 February, touring a local endometriosis and pelvic pain clinic without any public announcement.

There was no advance notice to residents, no open forum and no public event. The visit was confirmed after the fact by the Prime Minister’s Office.

For a region the size of Wyndham — one of the fastest-growing municipalities in the country — the secrecy has not gone unnoticed. Many locals say they were unaware the nation’s leader was in town until he had already left.

It marks the second low-profile stop by Anthony Albanese in Melbourne’s west, following a similarly unannounced visit in June 2024.

During the 26 February appearance, the Prime Minister promoted the Federal Government’s rollout of 33 endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics nationwide and the listing of new endometriosis medications on the PBS.

However, the visit unfolded against a backdrop of political scrutiny.

While in Victoria, Mr Albanese was questioned about comments he made regarding former Australian of the Year Grace Tame. He had described Ms Tame as “brave” and acknowledged her advocacy but suggested she had made political choices in her activism — remarks that sparked widespread media debate.

The combination of a tightly managed visit and controversy surrounding national commentary has added fuel to existing frustration among some voters in Melbourne’s west, where cost-of-living pressures, infrastructure delays and service demands remain front of mind.

Werribee is a key Labor-held area. Yet this latest prime ministerial appearance came and went without public engagement.

The Prime Minister was here. Most of Wyndham did not know.
