Werribee man and three others remanded after Footscray arrest
Four people have been charged following a string of alleged armed robberies across Melbourne’s west on 22 July.
Police allege the group targeted four bottle shops and service stations in Tottenham, Derrimut and Tarneit. In each incident, at least one edged weapon was reportedly produced as demands were made for cash, cigarettes and alcohol, before the group fled in a stolen Audi sedan.
No physical injuries were reported.
The vehicle was later spotted on Leakes Road. With support from the Air Wing, police followed it along the Princes Freeway and through streets in Spotswood, Yarraville and Seddon before it came to a stop on Chatham Street in Footscray.
A 20-year-old Glenroy man, a 19-year-old Wallan man, an 18-year-old Werribee man and a 17-year-old boy from Merri-bek were arrested.
All four have been charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and driving offences.
The Glenroy and Wallan men were remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 24 July. The Werribee man is due to appear on 16 October, while the Merri-bek teen will face a children’s court at a later date.
