In short:
Wyndham City Council has opened expressions of interest for a new public mural on Sharp Street in Hoppers Crossing, with local artists invited to collaborate with young people on the design.
Council Funding New Mural
Wyndham City Council is calling for expressions of interest from artists and collectives with a connection to Wyndham to deliver a new public mural in Hoppers Crossing.
The Sharp Street Mural Project will see a 25-metre external wall transformed into a permanent artwork, developed in collaboration with young people from Wyndham Youth Services’ Paradox FReeZA program. The successful artist will take part in workshops with local youth, with those discussions helping shape the final design.
The project aligns with themes in Wyndham’s Public Art Plan, including a futurism perspective, and is intended to reflect local identity while adding to the public space around the Sharp Street shops.
Three shortlisted artists will each receive $1,000 excluding GST to develop a concept proposal. The final commission carries a $30,000 artist fee excluding GST, with council support provided across engagement, design and installation.
The mural site spans a wall approximately 25 metres long, with the height dropping from about 4.5 metres at one end to around 2.3 metres at the other, facing the residential side of the building. Artists are expected to consider the history, character and community of the area and deliver an artwork suitable for a highly visible public location.
Applications are open to artists or collectives who live, work or study in Wyndham, or who can demonstrate a strong connection to the municipality. Emerging artists, First Peoples and those from multicultural communities are encouraged to apply.
Expressions of interest close at 12 midnight on 8 February 2026, with installation scheduled for April 2026. Applications can be submitted via the Wyndham City Council website.
