Atticus Tan Honored as September's One Wyndham Recipient for Community Bicycle Service

Wyndham City is pleased to announce Atticus Tan as the recipient of the One Wyndham award for September. Atticus contributes to the community by providing complimentary bicycle repairs and servicing to local residents. He repurposes components from old, recycled, and abandoned bicycles, preventing bikes from ending up in landfills and helping community members save money.

Atticus offers free servicing sessions every two weeks, including during school holidays. While fixing bicycles, he also educates parents on how to maintain their children’s bikes for safety. Point Cook residents benefit from free health checks, tire replacements, chain adjustments, seat modifications, and even comprehensive bicycle repairs.

In addition to his community work, Atticus is a Leading Cadet in the Australian Air Force Cadets, stationed at Point Cook RAAF. He is also passionate about sailing and is currently a member of the Australian Optimist Sailing Team. Recently, he represented Team Australia in an international sailing regatta held in Morocco.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre praised Atticus’s dedication and contributions to bicycle repair within the community, emphasizing how he not only helps residents keep their bikes operational but also minimizes environmental waste by repurposing bike parts.

Cr McIntyre stated that Atticus serves as a positive role model, making a meaningful impact on local residents. He not only ensures their bikes are in working order but also enhances their safety. Atticus’s willingness to volunteer his time and expertise for the community is truly commendable.

One Wyndham recipients are individuals aged 12 to 25 who make positive contributions to the Wyndham community and serve as role models for other young people. Each month, the Council selects a Wyndham resident to be recognized as the ‘Young Person of the Month.’ Winners receive a $300 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
