Contactless Bus Payments Coming

Tap and go bus

In short:

Tap and go payments are being progressively introduced across more than 2,500 Victorian buses, with the entire Melbourne bus network expected to support contactless payments by 26 July.

Contactless Payments Expanding

Passengers will soon be able to use tap and go payments on buses across Victoria, with the rollout expanding progressively over the next two weeks.

More than 2,500 myki-enabled buses will be switched on in stages, with the rollout scheduled to be completed by 26 July.

From Sunday, tap and go will become available on bus routes in Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour, Geelong, Traralgon, Warragul, Bacchus Marsh, Sunbury, Berwick, Cranbourne and the Yarra Valley.

By 26 July, the technology will be available across all metropolitan Melbourne bus routes.

Once the rollout is complete, passengers will be able to use a Visa or Mastercard bank card, smartphone or smartwatch to tap on across every myki-enabled train station, tram and bus in Victoria.

During the rollout, passengers should check for the Visa or Mastercard logo on the bus ticket reader to confirm tap and go is available on their service. Passengers are also advised to continue carrying their myki until all buses have been switched over.

Passengers transferring between bus services should continue using a myki until the rollout is complete.

More than 2.3 million tap and go trips have been recorded since trials began in March.

Concession passengers, seniors and those under 18 should continue using their concession or Youth myki, while passengers who prefer using a myki can continue to do so.
