Buses Replace Trains On Geelong Line

Geelong Line passengers are being warned to plan ahead, with major service disruptions set to affect trains for almost two weeks in January due to works at West Tarneit Station.

V/Line says service changes will run from Saturday night 10 January to Friday 23 January 2026, with buses replacing trains and services terminating early.

On Saturday 10 January, coaches will replace trains between Southern Cross and Waurn Ponds after 8pm towards Melbourne and after 8.30pm from Southern Cross.

From 11 January through to 23 January, all Geelong Line trains will start and finish at Wyndham Vale Station, with alternative transport required for passengers travelling further toward Melbourne.

Passengers heading to the city from Waurn Ponds, Marshall, South Geelong, Geelong, North Geelong, North Shore, Corio, Lara, Little River and Wyndham Vale will need to travel by train to Wyndham Vale, then transfer to a bus to Werribee before boarding a Metro train into the CBD.

Passengers using Tarneit Station will be required to take a bus to Laverton, then continue by Metro train to and from Melbourne.

For travel between Wyndham Vale, Tarneit, Deer Park and Sunshine, stopping-all-stations bus services will operate throughout the disruption period.

Additional night-time changes will also apply on most evenings, with coaches replacing trains between Southern Cross and Wyndham Vale or Waurn Ponds, as shown in temporary timetables.

V/Line has advised there is limited space for bikes on trains and replacement coaches, with bikes not permitted on low-floor buses. Pets and hot food or drinks are also not allowed on replacement services.

Passengers must carry a valid myki or paper ticket, and coaches in Melbourne will operate from the Southern Cross Station coach terminal on Spencer Street.
