Wyndham’s 8th annual Way Out West Youth Photography Competition is now accepting entries.
Wyndham City’s Libraries and Youth Services are inviting young people in the local community to submit their best photographs for a chance to win one of the six prizes available. The competition will remain open until 4 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
Cr Jasmine Hill, the portfolio holder for Learning City, encourages young individuals aged 12 to 25, residing, studying, working, or socializing in Wyndham, to participate in this competition as a platform for expressing their creative impulses.
Photography is described as a creative and deeply personal emotional expression that tells a story through each captured image. Cr Hill emphasizes the opportunity to showcase prodigious skills and unleash creativity to the fullest. Participants are encouraged to capture moments, freeze memories, and let their pictures communicate their narratives.
This competition is seen as an exceptional chance to showcase photographic skills and potentially establish a reputation in the photography world. Cr Hill urges participants to grab their cameras or phones and start capturing.
The Way Out West Photography Competition features several prize categories, including the Way Out West Prize (best capturing life in Wyndham), Best Landscape, Best Portrait, Best Black and White Image, Best Use of Colour, and the prestigious ‘Grand Prize’ based on content and artistic merit.
Participants are encouraged to align their submissions with the creative prompts provided by these prize categories. Winners of the competition will be announced on Thursday, July 13, 2023, on the Council’s website and social media pages.
Cr Marcel Mahfoud, the portfolio holder for Creative City, highlights the opportunity this competition provides for budding photographers and local creatives to gain recognition for their creativity while exploring the wonders of Wyndham.
A variety of prizes are up for grabs, including a $500 prize for the overall winner.
