Cat Safety Campaign Begins

Indoor Cats

In short:

Wyndham City Libraries are running a cat education campaign throughout May, focusing on safe at-home care and responsible ownership. The program supports upcoming 24-hour cat containment rules across Wyndham.

Cat Safety in Focus

Wyndham City Libraries are running the “Safe Cat, Safe Wildlife” campaign throughout May, in partnership with Public Libraries Victoria, Zoos Victoria and RSPCA.

The campaign focuses on educating cat owners about how to care for their pets at home and reduce risks associated with roaming.

Point Cook and Manor Lakes Libraries are displaying a life-size cat enclosure during May, showing how cats can remain active in a contained environment.

Wyndham libraries will also host cat-themed children’s activities aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership.

Information provided through the campaign highlights the risks of free roaming, including road accidents, injuries, and exposure to harmful substances.

It also outlines the impact roaming cats can have on local wildlife, including birds and small animals.

The campaign coincides with changes under Wyndham City’s Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026–2029.

A 24-hour cat containment requirement came into effect on 01 January 2026, with a phased education period in place until December 2026 before enforcement begins.

The existing overnight curfew from 10pm to 6am remains in place during this period.
