Join the Fight Against Invasive Carp While Enjoying a Fun Day of Fishing at Manor Lakes Reserve.
Following the resounding success of their inaugural event in 2022, the Werribee River Association is thrilled to announce the return of their popular fishing event, Catch-a-Carp. The event is set to take place once again at the picturesque Manor Lakes Reserve, promising a day of outdoor fun for people of all ages and skill levels.
The primary aim of this event is to address the issue of invasive carp species in the local waterways. Carp, known for their destructive feeding habits and rapid population growth, have been causing severe harm to native aquatic plants, animals, and the overall health of the river ecosystem. A single 4–5 kg carp is capable of producing over 1 million eggs, which further exacerbates the problem. By removing these invasive species from the waterways, the Werribee River Association hopes to boost the numbers of native fish and improve the overall water quality, ultimately benefiting the entire community.
In addition to the altruistic aspect of helping the environment, participants have a chance to win fantastic prizes. There’s even a special junior category designed for the young anglers eager to try their hand at fishing. It’s happening Saturday Nov 25 from 10am-2pm at Manor Lakes Reserve.

The Catch-a-Carp event is also a golden opportunity for those new to fishing. Expert anglers will be on-site to provide guidance, assist with baiting hooks, and demonstrate carp handling techniques. For those who don’t have their own fishing gear, the event offers rod rental options, complete with bait and tackle.
To keep participants fueled and refreshed throughout the day, coffee and gelato trucks will be on hand, along with a Rotary BBQ that caters to a variety of dietary preferences, including vegetarian and halal options. Alternatively, attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic for a leisurely day out in nature.
