Business ordered to clean up

A Wyndham concreting business has been fined $10,176 after Wyndham City Council’s anti-dumping CCTV cameras caught it illegally dumping concrete on a road in Mount Cottrell.

Council footage shows one truck and two people involved in the dumping, which left a pile of concrete waste on the roadway. The business has been ordered to return to the site and dispose of the material correctly.

Wyndham City Council says it’s recording a concerning rise in illegal dumping on roads across the municipality, warning that the practice puts lives at risk. Earlier this year, a vehicle was written off on the outskirts of Point Cook after colliding with rubbish that had been dumped in the middle of a road.

The council is urging drivers in outer areas of Wyndham to stay alert for potential hazards, particularly on rural and semi-rural roads where dumped waste can go unnoticed until it’s too late.

Wyndham TV has previously reported on the state government’s $8.5 million illegal dumping rebate scheme, introduced to help councils recover clean-up costs when offenders can’t be identified — though in this case, Wyndham City’s camera network meant the offending business was caught and made to pay.

Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping, or has information about an incident, is urged to report it to Wyndham City Council: https://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/request
