Ute Smashes Into Tarneit Restaurant After High-Speed Police Chase
An out-of-control ute being chased by police caused chaos in Tarneit overnight, hitting a traffic island before sailing across Tarneit Road and crashing roof-first into a restaurant. The vehicle landed back on the road, and the driver fled on foot, only to be apprehended moments later by the Dog Squad.
The incident began when the white Nissan ute was spotted speeding at 130km/h in a 60km/h zone on Derrimut Road around 12:40 am. Despite police attempts to intercept the vehicle, the driver evaded them, prompting the Air Wing to step in.
After attempting to avoid road spikes at the intersection of Leakes Road and Tarneit Road, the driver lost control, resulting in the dramatic crash. Damage to the traffic island and a large hole in the restaurant’s wall were clearly visible in the light of day.
The 29-year-old Werribee man was taken to hospital for assessment and is expected to be interviewed by police today.
