Chromatica: Colour Play offers free interactive program for children, featuring workshops and installations.

Wyndham City is thrilled to partner with the award-winning Australian arts group indirect Object to bring forth an extraordinary exhibition and activity program that will transport children into a captivating world of colour and light.

The interactive program, Chromatica: Colour Play, offers a wide array of workshops, installations, and activities designed for children of all ages. Running from Wednesday, July 5th to Saturday, July 22nd, 2023, between 11am and 3pm, this free program will be held at The Annex arts space, located at the Wyndham Cultural Centre, 177 Watton St, Werribee.

According to Cr Marcel Mahfoud, Wyndham City’s Creative City portfolio holder, “Chromatica: Colour Play is a wonderful activity for children of all ages to come and enjoy this fabulous local art-based program during the July school holidays.”

He further describes it as “a playground of colourful immersive experiences.”

Describing some of the installations, he explains, “The installations range from helping to create a glowing forest of 3D neon webs then seeing how it looks through a mirror prism to a large-scale modular kaleidoscope, where you can turn the wheels to create endlessly changing colour patterns.”

Mahfoud also encourages people to explore the installations beyond the workshop sessions.

Workshops, scheduled on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11am to 3.30pm between July 6th and July 15th, aim to tap into the creative side of young residents. These workshops include activities such as making small mirror prisms from recycled silver cardboard shapes, contributing to a neon mural while observing colour changes through 3D glasses, and learning about plastic recycling while creating personal sun catchers.

The program is a collaboration with indirect Object, a West Melbourne collective known for creating immersive and educational experiences. Led by experienced artists, the program promises to be creative, engaging, and loads of fun!
