Melbourne Truss Pty Ltd has been charged with breaching section 26 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to provide a safe working environment.
Emergency services were called to a property on Pilatus Crescent on the 3rd of March 2019, following reports a man had injured himself about 12.10 pm
WorkSafe charged the company after attending the site following the incident in which a 35-year-old man died at the scene after being struck by a falling steel beam.
It’s alleged the company could have taken reasonably practicable steps to reduce the risk to health and safety during the delivery of trusses by ensuring:
- Truss bundles were unloaded in a safe unloading zone.
- Workers used appropriate PPE.
- Crane operators worked from a safe location.
- Truss bundles were attached to a properly balanced sling.
The matter is listed for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 13 September.
