Concrete Batching Company Fined $10,000 for Wastewater Mismanagement: EPA Takes Action Against Midway Concreting in Laverton North.

A company in Laverton North, Victoria, has been fined $9,880 by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for failing to contain wastewater from its concrete batching business. The company, Aerolink Property Corporations trading as Midway Concreting, was found to have allowed over 1,000 litres of wastewater to escape their facility on Holcourt Road on July 9.

EPA officers visited the site and observed the wastewater washing out of the driveway and down the road to drain inlets. Steve Lansdell, the EPA’s west metropolitan regional manager, stated, “We only want to see rainwater going down our stormwater drains, but video evidence clearly shows a large volume of wastewater washing out of the driveway and down the road to drain inlets.”

Lansdell emphasized the potential pollution risk, as the wastewater would drain into local creeks and waterways. He also stressed the importance of preventing pollution, stating, “It’s everyone’s business to act to prevent pollution but this was not happening at Holcourt Rd, so a fine of $9,880 is appropriate.”
