Coronavirus Fragments Detected in Wyndham Waste Water.

Coronavirus fragments have been detected in a wastewater catchment that services suburbs in a catchment that services Melbourneā€™s west.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, is urged to get tested, especially if you live in or have visited these areas during these dates:

22 to 29 March:
šŸ“Ā Hoppers Crossing
šŸ“Ā Tarneit
šŸ“Ā Truganina
šŸ“Ā Werribee

Fragments of the virus detected in wastewater may be due to a person with COVID-19 being in the early active infectious phase or it could be because someone is continuing to shed the virus after the early infectious period.

People who have or have recently had COVID-19 may shed fragments of the virus. These fragments can enter wastewater through toilets, bowls, sinks, and drains. This viral shedding may come from different sources such as used tissues, off hands and skin, or in stools. This may last for a number of weeks beyond a personā€™s infectious period.
