Coronavirus Kills Local Festival

Point Cook’s Lunar New Year Festival appeared very stark in comparison to last year’s celebrations due to the recent outbreak of the much-publicised coronavirus, according to organisers.Stark crowd were at the event

Bob Fairclough, one of the organisers of the festival, stated that the coronavirus fear had affected the crowd numbers this year as well as some key acts cancelling their performances.

Food stalls suffered

Some food vendors that paid $450 to have a stall on the day, said that they were struggling to recuperate costs.

There were bigger and better amusement rides this year as well but you were lucky to see them operating at all due to the lower than usual numbers.

Theme rides were at a standstill

Some councilors were present at the event and joined organisers in acknowledging the importance of everyone involved. Local member Jill Hennessy did not attend the event due to an earlier car accident.
