Arts and Culture Direction Set Until 2030
Wyndham has adopted a new four-year strategy aimed at growing the city’s arts and creative sector, with councillors unanimously endorsing the plan at their meeting on Tuesday 28 July.
The Creative Wyndham Strategy 2026–2030 sets out council’s direction for arts, culture and creativity over the next four years, with a focus on increasing community participation, supporting local artists and improving access to creative spaces.
Importantly, the strategy does not commit council to any additional funding beyond its existing Long Term Financial Plan. Instead, it will be delivered through existing budgets, partnerships and external funding opportunities, with any future infrastructure projects still subject to council’s normal budget process.
The strategy follows a month-long public exhibition between 29 April and 27 May.
Community feedback showed the strongest demand was for more accessible creative spaces, including rehearsal rooms, studios, pottery facilities and affordable venues.
Residents also called for greater support for local artists through networking, mentoring and professional development opportunities, more live music and theatre spaces, and arts programs that reflect Wyndham’s diverse community.
Council said the consultation attracted 951 page views and 35 survey responses, generating 44 suggestions.
The strategy describes arts and creativity as an important part of Wyndham’s social infrastructure, saying they strengthen community connection, improve wellbeing and help people feel a sense of belonging.
