Council Backs $12M Office Hub

Market Road and Manly Street two

In short:

Wyndham councillors have unanimously approved a $12 million mixed-use development at 2-6 Market Road, Werribee, opposite Werribee Station. The project will deliver offices, community consulting rooms and a café, with planners saying the location is well suited to public transport and employment growth.

Mixed-use Development Given Green Light

A new $12 million mixed-use development opposite Werribee Station has been unanimously approved by Wyndham councillors.

The Planning Committee voted in favour of the proposal on Tuesday 14 July, granting a planning permit for a two-storey development at 2-6 Market Road, Werribee.

The development will include office spaces, consulting and meeting rooms for community services, a social enterprise café and associated amenities.

Plans also include 48 car parking spaces, two motorcycle spaces, 26 bicycle spaces and a reduced car parking requirement due to the site’s close proximity to Werribee Station and the adjoining bus interchange.

Cr Mia Shaw said she believed the location was well suited to the proposal.

“It is a busy area, it is across the road from a train station, but I do think it is actually an appropriate development for that site because of how it can be accessed by two roads and not just one in and one out.”

Planning officers said the proposal aligns with the Werribee Activity Centre planning framework and would provide employment opportunities, community services and additional commercial activity within the city centre.

They also found the reduced parking provision was appropriate given the site’s excellent access to public transport.

The application attracted just one public objection during advertising. The concern related to the condition of an existing boundary fence, while the objector otherwise described the project as a positive development that would enhance the area.

The building will be constructed on the 3,315-square-metre corner site at Market Road and Manly Street, directly opposite Werribee Station. It will feature a landscaped courtyard, office tenancies, consulting rooms and a café, with vehicle access from Market Road.
