Council Backs $9.7M EV Station

Electric truck charging

In short:

Wyndham Council has approved a $9.7 million electric truck charging station at 21–23 Maria Street, Laverton North. The 28-bay facility is set to strengthen Wyndham’s freight network and support the shift to electric trucks across Melbourne’s west.

Electric Truck Hub Approved

Wyndham Council has approved a $9.7 million electric truck charging station for Laverton North, backing a major new investment in freight infrastructure in the city’s industrial heart.

At its 10 February 2026 Planning Committee meeting, councillors granted a planning permit for a service station at 21–23 Maria Street that will operate as an electric truck charging hub.

The development will feature 28 electric truck charging bays designed for heavy vehicles, along with dedicated charging spaces for cars.

Plans include a central heavy vehicle entry, a separate access point for light vehicles, internal footpaths, secure fencing, lighting and supporting electrical infrastructure such as transformers and charging cabinets.

A 10m by 15m office building with staff amenities will also be built on site.

The site is located within an established industrial precinct near major logistics operations, with Federation Trail along the northern boundary.

Council officers determined the proposal aligns with the Wyndham Planning Scheme and is appropriate for the Public Use Zone.

No objections were received during the public advertising period.

Conditions require additional landscaping along the street frontage, including at least five canopy trees.

The facility will provide 18 car parking spaces, with restrictions on staff numbers to avoid overflow parking in surrounding streets.

For nearby residents, impacts are expected to be limited due to the industrial setting.

For freight and logistics operators across Melbourne’s west, the project is set to support the transition to electric trucks and lower transport emissions over time.
