Wyndham City Council has cut ties with security contractor MA Security and will seek a new provider through a fresh tender process.
Council confirmed the decision in a statement posted to its Facebook page on 11 March, saying security services will go to tender in the coming months while interim arrangements remain in place.
The move follows the collapse of MA Services Group, the parent company of MA Security, which entered voluntary administration in December 2025.
The Melbourne-based company provided security, cleaning and maintenance services across Australia and employed thousands of staff before its collapse. Around 1,700 workers lost their jobs when administrators shut down major parts of the business.
Before entering administration, the company had been under scrutiny over millions of dollars in unpaid tax, allegations of worker exploitation and claims of sexual harassment against founder Micky Ahuja.
In its statement, council said:
“Wyndham City has cut ties with MA Security and will seek tenders for the service in the coming months.
The move follows MA Security, which delivers security services across Council, entering voluntary administration in December 2025.
Council’s security service has not been compromised, with interim arrangements in place to ensure continued delivery while the tender process is underway.
This will support ongoing service continuity and help ensure Council’s security arrangements remain strong and fit for purpose into the future.
Council is taking a careful and considered approach to maintain reliable security services across its facilities during this transition.
Council expects to appoint a new security provider later this year.”
Troubled Association Ends
MA Security was also the contractor delivering Wyndham’s controversial Truganina security patrol trial.
The patrol began on 10 November as a six-month pilot and is scheduled to end on 10 April. It cost ratepayers $372,000 and was included in the council’s annual budget.
When the initiative was first promoted, it was described as a 12-month program before later being clarified as a six-month trial.
Statistics released by council in January showed most patrol activity involved passive deterrence. Officers reported advising residents when garage doors had been left open, alerting homeowners when vehicles had been left running and maintaining a visible presence through neighbourhood patrols.
The trial has been one of the most controversial council initiatives in recent years, attracting community backlash and dividing councillors.
MA Security also provided other security services across Wyndham City Council facilities.
With the company now removed as a contractor and a new provider yet to be selected, the future of the patrol itself remains uncertain.
The current trial is still scheduled to conclude on 10 April. Council has not confirmed whether it will continue once the pilot ends.
