Council Halts Featherbrook Pavilion Plans

Plans for a major upgrade of the Featherbrook Reserve Pavilion in Point Cook will not progress further this financial year, with Wyndham Council instead opting to help local sporting clubs pursue alternative funding.

The decision follows consideration of the pavilion’s future at the 22 September council meeting.

Council officers found an expansion was technically possible but said it was not currently viable as a council-funded project because of financial, policy and capital works considerations.

The project is also not included in council’s existing capital works forecasts.

Featherbrook Reserve was built in 2012 and is used by Point Cook Centrals Sporting Club and Point Cook Centrals Cricket Club.

The clubs had sought between $50,000 and $60,000 during the 2026-27 budget process for structural engineering work and concept designs for a potential expansion.

The broader proposal includes two additional change rooms and an expanded social area, along with improvements to amenities, storage and other club facilities.

Council estimates a change room expansion would cost about $1.35 million, while the larger social room expansion and associated works would cost about $4.67 million. The combined indicative cost is approximately $6.02 million.

The existing pavilion currently meets council’s standard provision for a single-oval sporting facility, while several elements of the proposed expansion would go beyond those standards.

Instead of funding further preliminary work, council will provide guidance to the tenant clubs as they pursue external funding opportunities for any future expansion.
