Council Seeks Input On Rural Land

Green wedge

In short:

Wyndham City is inviting feedback on the future management of the Western Plains South Green Wedge, covering rural land from Little River to Eynesbury. Community input before 27 March may influence future planning controls and land-use decisions in Melbourne’s west.

Feedback Open on Green Wedge

Wyndham City is seeking community feedback on how the Western Plains South Green Wedge should be managed into the future.

The green wedge runs from Little River to Eynesbury and includes farmland, open space and areas of environmental and landscape value.

A green wedge is a non-urban area of land set aside under Victorian planning laws to limit urban sprawl and protect agriculture, environmental assets, open landscapes and rural character.

Development is restricted, with planning controls focused on farming, conservation and low-impact land uses.

Council has prepared the Western Plains South Green Wedge Landscape Character Assessment to guide future planning decisions.

The document outlines key landscape features across the area, including open grasslands, native vegetation, geological formations, views and sites of cultural heritage significance.

It also examines how agricultural land is currently used and considers the pressures facing farming in the area, such as urban growth at the edges of Wyndham.

The assessment will help inform future planning controls and land-use decisions within the green wedge.

Residents, landowners, farmers and businesses can provide feedback on how the area should be protected and managed.

Community input may influence future policy directions, planning guidelines and any proposed updates to local planning controls affecting the green wedge.

Two information sessions will be held:

12 March, 4.00pm to 7.00pm
Little River Mechanics Institute, 8 Rothwell Road, Little River

18 March, 5.30pm to 8.00pm
Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre, 86 Manor Lakes Boulevard, Manor Lakes

Feedback closes on 27 March. Submissions can be made online at theloop.wyndham.vic.gov.au/WPSGW.
