In a shocking turn of events, a sex-related business operating in the family-friendly suburb of Truganina has been closed down by authorities, leaving local residents completely surprised.
The discreet establishment, resembling a regular residential home with its brown-bricked unit and cream-coloured rendered frontage, occupied a corner block overlooking a peaceful green paddock.
On closer inspection, a small window near the property’s garage was found to be covered from the outside, while a couple of garbage bins remained stationed nearby.
The unassuming three-bedroom, two-bathroom dwelling blended seamlessly into the neighbourhood, keeping its true nature hidden behind patterned curtains and vertical blinds, leaving oblivious neighbours unaware of the X-rated activities taking place within its walls.
Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the Werribee Magistrates Court officially designated the unit on Rymill Way as a proscribed brothel on August 10, 2020.
Operating under the provisions of the Sex Work Act 1994, the occupants of the property were granted permission to conduct their risqué business, subject to compliance with specified conditions.
Interestingly, the brothel had been granted a license a year after the property was put up for lease, with real estate agents advertising it as a contemporary family home on social media in 2019.
The listing highlighted its convenient proximity to schools, parklands, public transport, shopping centres, freeways, and other amenities, promoting an idyllic living experience in Truganina.
Operating discreetly for almost three years, the brothel managed to remain hidden from the prying eyes of neighbours until recently when its license was revoked by the same court.
Court documents from a case heard on May 29, 2023, revealed that the Werribee Magistrates Court cancelled the agreement, rendering the brothel legally prohibited from continuing its operations.
The closure of the establishment was subtly announced in the Victorian government’s gazette, published on June 8. The notice confirmed that the Werribee Magistrates Court had rescinded the order issued on August 10, 2020, stating that the premises on Rymill Way, Truganina, was no longer classified as a proscribed brothel under the Sex Work Act 1994.
The unexpected revelation has left Truganina residents in disbelief, as they come to terms with the fact that the seemingly ordinary home in their family-friendly neighbourhood was, in reality, a front for illicit activities. The closure of the business serves as a reminder that appearances can be deceiving, even behind closed doors.
