Defence Department Sets Height Limits.

The proposed Defence Aviation Area seeks to protect airspace surrounding RAAF Base Point Cook. The intent of the proposed Defence Aviation Area is to provide clear guidance to developers, landowners, occupiers and other interested parties about the height restrictions applying to new buildings, structures and/or objects requiring Department of Defence approval.

The Department of Defence is seeking public feedback to better understand any community comments, observations or concerns with the proposed Defence Aviation Area for RAAF Base Point Cook.

The feedback will be used to inform a review of the proposed Defence Aviation Area before a final Defence Aviation Area is recommended to the Minister for Defence for approval.

Each zone has different height limits

For sites subject to Defence Aviation Areas, the Department of Defence conducts an assessment of proposed activities that exceed the height restrictions specified, including consideration of safety criteria and consultation with a wide range of civilian and military stakeholders. An application normally takes up to two months to assess.
