In short:
Tarneit Station has been selected for a three-year trial of the GoodMaps wayfinding app, which provides audio and visual navigation assistance for passengers. The trial aims to improve accessibility and help travellers move through one of Wyndham’s busiest transport hubs more independently.
Navigation Trial Hitting Local Station
Passengers using Tarneit Station will soon be able to access a new navigation tool designed to make travelling through the station easier for people with accessibility needs.
A three-year trial of the GoodMaps wayfinding app is being launched at Tarneit, alongside Bendigo and Geelong stations.
The free app provides audio guidance and visual directions to help passengers find key facilities within stations, including platforms, toilets, information counters and coach bays. It is designed to assist people in navigating public transport environments more independently.
Tarneit was selected as one of the trial locations due to its high passenger numbers and its role as one of the busiest stations on the V/Line network.
The trial will allow V/Line to assess how digital wayfinding technology can improve accessibility for passengers across the broader network.
GoodMaps is already used on public transport systems in countries including Canada and the United Kingdom. The app is available to download through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Station staff will continue to provide assistance to passengers who require support during the trial period.
The initiative forms part of V/Line’s Accessibility Action Plan 2025–2028, which also includes improvements to train accessibility, station facilities and support services for passengers travelling with mobility aids.
For Wyndham residents who rely on Tarneit Station, the trial could provide an additional tool for navigating one of the region’s busiest transport hubs, particularly for passengers with vision impairments, mobility challenges or other accessibility requirements.
