In short:

Wyndham City Council will run a three-month blitz targeting illegal use of disabled parking bays after 189 complaints and low infringement rates. Enforcement will cover only public land, as the council cannot act in private car parks such as shopping centres.

Council Targeting Parking Non-compliance

Wyndham City Council will launch a three-month enforcement blitz to improve compliance with disabled parking rules after receiving 189 complaints of misuse in the past nine months.

A report presented to councillors on 28 October confirmed that in the 2024–25 financial year, only 4 per cent of all parking infringements issued across Wyndham related to disabled parking offences.
The report also revealed there are 4,168 active disability parking permits in the municipality, reflecting strong local demand for accessible spaces.

The blitz will involve increased patrols and spot checks in public areas such as community centres, libraries and local precincts. However, the report notes that council officers cannot enforce parking laws on private property, including shopping centres, unless a formal agreement is in place with the landowner.

Alongside enforcement, a public awareness campaign is planned to remind motorists of the penalties for misusing disabled spaces and to highlight the impact on residents who rely on them for accessibility.

A follow-up report is expected in March 2026 to evaluate the results of the blitz and recommend future actions.
