Uncover the Stories Behind Werribee's Vibrant Street Art Murals: A Self-Guided Tour with Free Audio Commentary
Visitors to Werribee can now experience the city’s vibrant street art scene through a self-guided tour and free audio guide. The tour, which covers a distance of one kilometre and takes about an hour to complete, starts at the Wyndham Cultural Centre and ends at Kelly Park.
The trail showcases works from a variety of artists, including Ash Keating, Tom Gerard, Ghost Patrol, Minna Leunig, and Makatron.
One of the highlights of the tour is a large-scale mural created by Ash Keating in 2006, using paint-filled fire extinguishers. This mural, located in the car park of the Wyndham Cultural Centre, sets the tone for the rest of the tour. On the opposite side of the centre, visitors can view an abstract mural by Drez, painted in 2022.
As the tour continues, participants will come across Ghost Patrol’s creation on the Coles wall along Watton Street. This is followed by a stop at the Coffee Pot laneway, where a piece by Tom Gerrard from 2018 can be seen. Other notable stops include David Lee Pereira’s 110-meter floral mural in the Station Place laneway, Makatron’s artwork on the laneway beside the Twigg Family Law building, and Minna Leunig’s piece on the Kelly Park toilet block.
To enhance the experience, visitors can listen to audio recordings of the artists talking about their work at each stop. This allows for a deeper understanding of the art and the artists’ perspectives.
The tour is suitable for all ages, and the bite-sized interviews with the artists provide a personal touch to the experience. To access the audio recordings, all visitors need is a mobile phone and headphones. Each site also has a QR code and website link for easy access to the recordings.
