Double-Murder Investigation Unveils More CCTV Footage

Wyndham Vale Double Murder

Detectives seek assistance in identifying individuals connected to the tragic incident

Detectives from the police force are currently investigating a double-murder case in Wyndham Vale, which is believed to be connected to gang conflicts. They have released CCTV footage of two individuals whom they are seeking for questioning. The incident occurred on February 11 when two masked intruders entered a residence on Carmichael Drive and fired shots in the garage. Atem Atem, aged 29, and Ayuel Akuei, aged 22, tragically lost their lives during the attack. Another person sustained severe injuries, and a dog was also killed before the assailants fled the scene.

Surprisingly, the police have determined that the victims were not the intended targets of the violence. In their efforts to gather more information, the authorities have shared the recently obtained CCTV footage, which shows two men at a service station in Werribee at 2:30 am on the same day. One of the individuals can be seen wearing a grey jumper with a red hood, black Nike tracksuit pants, Nike slides, and a face mask, while the other is dressed in a black hoodie, black pants, and white Nike trainers. The two men were traveling in a black Toyota Estima.

Victoria Police have urged anyone who recognizes the individuals in the footage to come forward, as they may have valuable information regarding the case. Additionally, investigators from the homicide squad have released an image of a blue Toyota Camry with a silver bonnet, captured on CCTV at a fast-food drive-through in Laverton North shortly after 6 am on the same morning.

Police are hunting two men in relation to the double-murder.

According to the investigation, three vehicles arrived at the Carmichael Drive property around 2:45 am, and a group of men exited the cars to confront five individuals in the garage. Following a brief argument, shots were fired, and the victims were allegedly attacked with “edged weapons” by the assailants. Sadly, Atem and Ayuel lost their lives at the scene, while a 23-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Fortunately, two adults and four children who were also present in the house remained unharmed.

Detective acting Insp. Nigel L’Estrange of the homicide squad revealed that detectives specializing in gang crime are assisting with the investigation. He stated that while it is believed the group targeted the address due to a dispute between street gangs, Atem and Ayuel were not the intended victims. The detective emphasized the importance of finding answers for the grieving families and encouraged anyone with information or knowledge of the two men in the footage to come forward and cooperate with the investigation.
