Emergency operators were informed of a white sedan swerving dangerously close to other vehicles. The locals described the erratic behaviour as “potentially deadly” and urged for immediate police intervention.

Shortly after, officers in the area located the vehicle on Dunnings Road. Despite their flashing lights and repeated use of the horn, the driver refused to stop. The car continued at a slow speed, leading police along the road and toward Boardwalk Boulevard.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle finally came to a halt. Officers approached the driver and requested he take a preliminary breath test. What followed was a lengthy ordeal as the man failed to complete the test five times, each attempt falling short.

On the sixth attempt, the driver again failed to comply, prompting officers to inform him that he would need to attend a station for an evidentiary breath test.

As officers attempted to load the man into the back of the police van, he began to argue, refusing to cooperate. A visibly frustrated officer issued strict instructions, leaving the man no choice but to comply.

At the station, the driver eventually provided an evidentiary sample, which allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of .141 — nearly three times the legal limit.

The 30-year-old is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and traffic offences. Police have reiterated the dangers of driving under the influence, especially when it involves such blatant disregard for road safety.
