Works Complete On Pedestrian Passageway
Wyndham Council has completed a major streetscape upgrade along Duncans Road as part of works to improve Werribee’s City Centre.
The upgrade covers Duncans Road between Watton Street and Synnot Street and includes new bluestone footpaths, seating platforms, landscaping, improved lighting and a raised pedestrian crossing at Watton Street.
It is the first major project completed under the Rediscover Werribee City Centre program, which will include further streetscape upgrades across central Werribee.
Wyndham Mayor Mia Shaw said the works had improved one of the main entry points into the city centre.
“Duncans Road is one of the key entry points into Werribee’s City Centre, and these upgrades have created a safer, more attractive and pedestrian-friendly space for our community to enjoy,” Cr Shaw said.
Precinct Getting Facelift
Further works are already underway, with construction beginning in August on a new pedestrian crossing in Comben Drive.
Another pedestrian crossing is planned for Watton Street between Wedge Street and Werribee Street, while flashing lights will also be installed at the existing Watton Street crossing between Duncans Road and Cherry Street.
The crossing projects are being funded through the Victorian Government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
Council is also preparing for the second stage of its streetscape upgrades, focusing on the central section of Watton Street.
The construction contract is expected to be advertised in August, with works scheduled to begin in early 2027.
Further upgrades to the remainder of Watton Street and Station Place are also planned, subject to future funding.
