Duncans Road upgrade

Construction is underway on a $2 million streetscape upgrade of Duncans Road between Watton Street and Synnot Street in Werribee, delivering new footpaths, lighting and landscaping.

Werribee Street Gets Lift

Construction is underway on a $2 million upgrade of Duncans Road between Watton Street and Synnot Street in Werribee, targeting one of the main entry points into the City Centre.

The works focus on the section linking Watton Street to surrounding shops, services and transport connections.

Upgrades include new bluestone footpaths, feature seating platforms, landscaping, improved lighting and a raised pedestrian crossing at the Watton Street intersection.

The raised crossing is designed to slow vehicles and create a clearer pedestrian link into the retail strip.

Council says construction is being staged to maintain pedestrian access to businesses along Duncans Road while works continue.

Temporary changes to footpath access and traffic conditions are expected as crews move through each section.

Wyndham City Mayor Josh Gilligan, said the project forms part of a broader plan for the precinct.

“We’re investing millions of dollars to revitalise the Werribee City Centre – the heart of our City – to make walking, shopping and spending time in the area even better,” Cr Gilligan said.

The Duncans Road upgrade sits within a wider program of planned changes across the Werribee City Centre.

Further streetscape upgrades to Watton Street and Station Place are proposed, subject to future funding.

Other projects flagged in the precinct include plans to reimagine the former Palais Theatre site in Station Place, a $750,000 refurbishment of the Old Shire Offices and a new public open space at Kelly Park.

Duncans Road connects directly into Watton Street, which functions as Werribee’s main commercial strip.

The upgrade is expected to alter the look and layout of the street through new paving and landscaping treatments.

A completion date has not been specified. Updates are expected through Council’s Capital Works Dashboard as construction progresses.
