Popular Stadium Celebrates a Decade
Eagle Stadium has marked a decade as one of Wyndham’s premier sporting venues, celebrating its 10th anniversary with a community open day on 11 July.
The Werribee facility welcomed visitors for a free event featuring exhibition basketball, come-and-try sports, group fitness sessions, family activities and live entertainment, reflecting the broad range of programs and events the stadium has hosted since opening in its current form in June 2016.
Located on Ballan Road, Eagle Stadium has become a major hub for community sport, recreation and events over the past decade.
As Wyndham’s only indoor stadium of its scale and type, it has played a significant role in supporting local sport, particularly for young people.
Thousands of children and teenagers have used the venue through basketball, netball, volleyball and other indoor competitions, along with school programs, training and community events.
The stadium has also provided opportunities for people of all ages to participate in organised sport, social competitions, fitness programs and casual recreation, helping to meet demand as Wyndham has continued to grow.
The anniversary celebration included exhibition basketball matches, casual basketball and netball shooting, free group fitness classes, come-and-try sports activities, a Street Surfer Bus, a giant inflatable slide, face painting, hair braiding, live music from a DJ and food offerings.
The milestone highlighted the stadium’s place within Wyndham’s sporting landscape, having become a regular destination for local clubs, schools and community organisations over the past 10 years.
As one of the municipality’s key sporting facilities, Eagle Stadium has helped accommodate the rapid growth of indoor sport across the region while providing a central venue for competition, training and community engagement.
With Wyndham’s population continuing to expand, the stadium remains an important piece of sporting infrastructure and a pillar of community sport in Melbourne’s west.
