Car thieves bailed

Teens Charged After Reckless Joyride Ends in Arrests in Point Cook and Laverton North.

Eight boys have been charged by detectives from the Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit after two allegedly stolen vehicles were tracked through Wyndham on Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, a Subaru and Kia were seen driving recklessly through the Wyndham and Melton areas on June 17. With the assistance of Air Wing, officers were able to deploy stop sticks on Heaths Road in Hoppers Crossing, which successfully immobilized the Subaru Impreza sedan at around 12:15pm.

The Subaru then continued onto Forsyth Road in Tarneit before losing control in Point Cook and coming to a stop. Four male teenagers who were in the vehicle attempted to flee from police but were quickly apprehended near The Strand in Point Cook.

Meanwhile, the Air Wing tracked the second vehicle, a Kia Sorrento SUV, on Fitzgerald Road in Laverton North at approximately 1pm. Four more boys were arrested at the scene without incident.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. It is alleged that the Kia was stolen from a property in Tarneit on June 17 and the Subaru was taken from a property in Newport on June 13.

The eight boys, aged between 15 and 17, were all charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

Two 17-year-old males from Tarneit, three 16-year-old males from Tarneit, a 16-year-old male from Truganina, a 15-year-old male from Tarneit and a 15-year-old male from Hoppers Crossing were all charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

They have been bailed to appear before a children’s court at a later date.
