The incident began when officers spotted an LDV D90 wagon travelling on Brightonvale Boulevard in Wyndham Vale just after 7.15pm. The vehicle had been reported stolen from a driveway on McIntryre Avenue in Point Cook on 13 July. According to the owner, the car was only five weeks old at the time and is believed to have been stolen using an OBD (on-board diagnostic) device.

Police, with the assistance of the Air Wing, followed the vehicle along Ballan Road and into Point Cook. Stop sticks were deployed on Applebox Circuit, successfully disabling the SUV, which came to a stop a short time later on Alamanda Boulevard.

All eight male occupants were arrested at the scene.

An 18-year-old Tarneit man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 16 October. A 19-year-old Tarneit man, also charged with theft of a motor vehicle, is due to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 28 July.
