Knife-wielding intruder restrained, later dies
Detectives are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Point Cook woman following an incident at a Melbourne CBD apartment earlier this week.
Emergency services were called to a Berkeley Street apartment just before 2am, after reports that a woman armed with a knife had allegedly forced her way inside and made demands for property.
The two occupants of the apartment — a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman — are believed to have restrained the intruder before contacting police.
When officers arrived, they found the woman unconscious and immediately performed CPR at the scene. She was taken to hospital in critical condition but died on Wednesday evening.
Both residents have been interviewed by police and released pending further enquiries.
Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are leading the case, with oversight from the Homicide Squad. Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the alleged break-in and the woman’s death.
