In short:
Wyndham City is seeking feedback on proposed upgrades to Riverbend Historical Park as visitation is expected to increase alongside nearby development and future river infrastructure.
Community Consultation Now Open
Wyndham City is calling for community feedback on proposed upgrades to Riverbend Historical Park, with plans centred on improvements to picnic areas, seating and pathways.
The park and its walking trails are already heavily used by locals for exercise and dog walking, with visitation expected to rise as nearby residential development continues.
Riverbend Historical Park forms part of Werribee’s former irrigation scheme and sits close to the Diversion Weir, which was built in 1910 to supply water to the Werribee South market garden region.
Use of the area is also expected to increase later this year, with Melbourne Water planning upgrades to the existing canoe launch. Longer-term plans include a pedestrian bridge over the Werribee River, although the exact location has yet to be confirmed.
The bridge would connect Riverbend Historical Park with the proposed Werribee Township Regional Park on the river’s north bank, to be delivered by Parks Victoria.
Residents can attend two drop-in sessions at Riverbend Historical Park in Wyndham Vale to discuss the proposal and share feedback.
Sessions will be held from 10am to 12pm on 14 February and from 3pm to 6pm on 17 February.
Feedback on the proposed upgrades is open until 2 March via Wyndham City’s online consultation platform: https://theloop.wyndham.vic.gov.au/riverbend-historical-park
