Crews arrived within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of the single-storey structure. A large security gate initially hampered access to the property, requiring crews to cut the lock before beginning firefighting efforts.

Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, launched an external attack on the fire and worked to protect adjoining properties. The blaze was deemed under control at 1:54 am, but crews remained on-site overnight to ensure all hotspots were extinguished.

Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police assisted at the scene. Thick smoke prompted an emergency advisory, urging nearby residents to close windows and doors as a precaution. Sayers Road was closed between Seasons Boulevard and Thomas Carr Drive during the incident.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with FRV specialists expected to investigate later today. The destruction of the recent addition to the temple has added to the community’s shock and grief over the loss of the place of worship.
