Stage one of the $32.2 million K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction Project has been completed, marking a major upgrade to one of Werribee‘s most recognisable natural sites.

The works delivered a new clifftop walking trail with viewing platforms overlooking the Werribee River, a staircase to the riverbank, car park improvements, a picnic shelter, and interpretive signage outlining the area’s cultural and environmental history.

Drainage improvements were also included to help reduce erosion along the cliffs.

Wyndham Mayor Mia Shaw said the changes aim to improve public access while protecting the area’s landscape.

“The K Road Cliffs are a special part of Werribee South’s landscape, and these upgrades have made a difference,” Cr Shaw said.
“Stage one has improved access and safety while offering new viewpoints and a focus on sustainability.”

Stage two of the project is now underway and will reconstruct 2.8 kilometres of K Road between Duncans Road and the Cliffs, with sealed shoulders, a shared pedestrian and cycling path, and an upgraded intersection at Main Drive.

The Victorian Government has contributed $1.5 million and Melbourne Water $25,000 toward the project. When completed, it will improve access to local attractions including the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Mansion, and the Victoria State Rose Garden.
